Being a CORF certifies that Special Kids is a medical facility that provides outpatient diagnostic, therapeutic, and restorative services at a single fixed location for the rehabilitation of injury, disability, or sickness. This care is commonly known as outpatient rehabilitation care. Referring physicians to Special Kids must draw up treatment plans and review them at least every 60 days.
To maintain our CORF certification, Special Kids is surveyed and reviewed on a regular basis:
From self-care tasks like brushing teeth and zipping a jacket to handwriting and using utensils, these are the “occupations” of childhood and some children need extra support to master them.
Many of the children we serve face challenges processing sensory input from the world around them. This may show up as sensitivity to light, sound, or touch, or difficulty transitioning between activities or environments. Our Occupational Therapists work with each child to build independence, strengthen key skills, and help them function more confidently in daily life.
Therapy sessions are play-based and engaging, designed to break down complex tasks into manageable steps. Whether using toys, music, bubbles, or movement games, our goal is to make learning fun and meaningful.
After a thorough evaluation, we create a personalized treatment plan that reflects each child’s unique needs and goals. And from the very beginning, you’ll see our philosophy in action: “Play is a child’s work.”
Our foundation is based on a holistic approach. We believe in working with what is important to the child and their family. We collaborate with other disciplines to assure we can meet their outcomes. We believe that therapy should be a positive and empowering experience. We want to help your child gain confidence and independence through play, creativity, and meaningful connection. Our experienced OT team creates fun, personalized sessions that support your child’s goals leaving families feeling supported and children feeling empowered.
Step 1: Referral
Special Kids is referral-based. When we receive a referral from your provider, that's when the process begins.
Step 2: Intake
The Patient Services Supervisor will call to set up an appointment for the initial evaluation with a therapist. The billing office will work to verify insurance and payment information.
Step 3: Evaluation
One of our therapists will conduct an evaluation with your child to see if therapy is recommended. They will determine how often your child should come for treatment, and then Special Kids will work with you to schedule your regular visits.
