Being a CORF certifies that Special Kids is a medical facility that provides outpatient diagnostic, therapeutic, and restorative services at a single fixed location for the rehabilitation of injury, disability, or sickness. This care is commonly known as outpatient rehabilitation care. Referring physicians to Special Kids must draw up treatment plans and review them at least every 60 days.
To maintain our CORF certification, Special Kids is surveyed and reviewed on a regular basis:
Special Kids is referral-based. When we receive a referral from your provider, that's when the process begins.
The Patient Services Supervisor will call to set up an appointment for the initial evaluation with a therapist. The billing office will work to verify insurance and payment information.
One of our therapists will conduct an evaluation with your child to see if therapy is recommended. They will determine how often your child should come for treatment, and then Special Kids will work with you to schedule your regular visits.
Trust Your Gut - Early Help Matters!
If something doesn't feel right, it’s okay to ask questions. Early intervention can build confidence, reduce frustration, and unlock your child’s full potential.
You're Not Alone - Help Is Available
Our team provides expert, compassionate care to support safer, more enjoyable experiences. Our team is here to help you promote healthy childhood development and improve independence in your child to assist with participation in their community.
One parent is needed for the first therapy evaluation, but both parents are welcome to attend. For all other therapy sessions, parents are welcome to watch the therapy session, but in general, it is not encouraged. Most children see better progress and have more focus on the session when parents are not present. If a parent's presence is helpful for the session, the therapist will ask the parent to come back for the appointment.
Parents/guardians can call and speak with Lead Nurse to get more information and determine if patient will qualify for services. From there they can schedule a tour of the facility. If they decide to move forward, we set an intake date. If we receive a referral from a provider, we call parents and complete the same steps.
Our intake process takes about 1-2 months to complete. It is also dependent on openings and staffing.
Nursing is open from 7:30 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday. Parents can choose to enroll their child full-time or part-time based on their needs.
Special Kids provides outpatient skilled nursing care for children and youth who are medically-fragile. We provide a safe environment in which the child’s medical and therapeutic needs are met. Each child also receives outpatient physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapy services, when needed. If you’re unsure whether your child qualifies for our program, give our intake specialist a call. We’ll talk through your situation and work together to see how we can best support your family’s needs. (615) 809-2632
Our maximum is 6 children per RN, but it varies depending on acuity level and attendance. In addition to nurses, each group also has a CNA.
Our nursing outpatient care program is designed to nurture each child’s health, growth, and joy. A typical day includes:
Nutritious Meals & Snacks – We serve a healthy breakfast, lunch, and two snacks to keep kids fueled for the day.
Fun & Engaging Activities – Outdoor play, crafts, and hands-on projects encourage creativity and movement.
Faith-Based Learning – We begin each morning with praise and Bible study, helping children grow in spirit as well as in body.
Individualized Care – Our skilled nursing team provides the medical attention and support each child needs throughout the day.
Every day blends medical care, developmental activities, and loving encouragement in a safe, supportive environment.
